Meet Bill & Mary Staton
A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) with an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in Business
Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill, Bill is “America’s Money Coach®.”
Earning the CFA certification generally requires 250 hours of self-study for each of the three-level course exams spread out over two-five years. An undergraduate
degree and four years of professional experience involving investment decision-making or four years qualified experience in full time but not necessarily investment
related work are required to enter the CFA certification process. Continuous post-certification education is available to all CFAs through the CFA Institute.
Bill has been Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer for Staton Financial Advisors, LLC, since its inception in 2000. He and his wife/partner Mary began
portfolio management in 1997.
He launched his financial services career at Interstate Securities (headquartered in Charlotte, NC) as a securities analyst in 1971. While at Interstate, he became
director of the equity research department and member of the management team and board of directors. Bill left Interstate in late 1985 to begin a stock-picking
newsletter, which he published until March 2011.
An economic historian with 40 years in the financial-services industry, Bill has been profiled or quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post,
New York Times, Barron’s, Business Week, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, Bottom Line Personal, Money magazine, and interviewed
on numerous radio and television shows.
He is the author of six books on investing, including his most recent, Double Your Money in America’s Finest Companies®: The Unbeatable Moneymaking Power
of Rising Dividends from John Wiley. He also co-authored Worry-Free Family Finances (McGraw-Hill) with his wife Mary.
Mary Tunstall Staton is CEO and Chief Compliance Officer for Staton
Financial Advisors LLC. Mary is co-author of Worry-Free Family Finances
(McGraw-Hill). She authored Wisdom on Wealth!, a free email newsletter with
a circulation of over 8,000 for many years.
Mary has been quoted widely on financial topics, from teaching teens to handle money to planning for retirement. She has been a source for stories in The Christian Science Monitor, All You, The Charlotte Observer, The Charlotte Business Journal, Skirt magazine, Making Bread Magazine, WBTV, WJZY, and WFAE, among others.
Mary holds an MBA from the McColl School of Business at Queens University and was formerly a member of the McColl School Board of Visitors. Bill and Mary live in Charlotte, North Carolina and have four children.
